Sergio Marchionne Visits Ohio to Kick Off Chrysler 200 Production

When the CEO of an automotive manufacturing group stops in at a factory that was supposed to close in 2010 and has instead added 800 new jobs – bringing the total employed at that factory to 2800 – it’s a huge deal.

When the CEO of an automotive manufacturing group stops in at a factory that was supposed to close in 2010 but has 800 new employees and announces that $1 billion has been invested into the facility so that it can begin producing the company’s new model, well. You get the idea.

But really, Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat-Chrysler doesn’t make factory visits for nothing, and last week he appeared at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant to herald the start of the 2015 Chrysler 200’s production. Arguably one of the most powerful people in the whole of the auto industry, Marchionne said in his speech, “We’re making a big bet on [the 200’s] success.”

No pressure on those 800 new faces working the line.

The rekindled factory at Sterling Heights has been outfitted with a new paint shop, a new body shop, and a whole heap of new equipment and machinery to handle the 200. As far as the car’s success, we expect to see some “First Drive” reports very soon, and Leith Chrysler Jeep will be sure to share those.

If you want to see a video tour of the factory or listen to Marchionne’s speech in full, Autoblog has those videos embedded in their article, here.
