That’s right, the return of Jeep’s truck has been teased for a decade now, and we’ve finally got confirmation that it’s happening. The Jeep Wrangler pickup truck is currently being designed and won’t be ready for production until 2017 or 2018, but we’ve got the scoop on why Jeep has decided to bring back the truck.
The Wrangler Stays in Toledo
Since 1986, the Toledo Assembly Plant – built in 1910 and located in Toledo, Ohio – has been the incubator for Jeep Wranglers around the world. This factory has built everything from 1963 Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s to 2016 Jeep Cherokees, but it’s famous for Wranglers. Recently, Jeep has decided to move it’s wildly popular Jeep Cherokee to a newer factory in Illinois or Michigan, leaving the Toledo Factory a bit empty handed.
Luckily, the Jeep Wrangler will remain in the same place it began (right where it ought to be). Unfortunately for Toledo, they will be losing Jeep’s highest selling vehicle, the Cherokee.
Finding a Creative Solution
Losing the Jeep Cherokee is a big hit on the Toledo Factory – If not replaced by another vehicle, it could slow down much of their production and put some employees out of the job. Leaving friends behind is not the Jeep way, so in order to fill the factory, Chrysler-Fiat had to get creative. Thus, the long-awaited Wrangler pickup truck is coming back and it’s going to be built in the home of the Wranglers.
We don’t have any information on when the Jeep Wrangler Pickup will be released, what exactly it will look like, or what engines it will have, but we do have some photos to jog your imagination.
We hope you’ll keep your eyes on the blog as more information arrives, and come by our dealership if you have any questions. We’re all excited for the pickup truck to arrive, so we’d be more than happy to talk about it. Make sure to check us out on Facebook and Twitter for news and upcoming events.
