The Jeep Renegade is the type of multi-purpose vehicle we can appreciate. It’s got comfort, power, efficiency, cargo space, and plenty of character. But Jeep enthusiasts are skeptical of this vehicle’s place in the boulder-climbing off road Jeep-heritage. We’re here to tell (and show) you that the Renegade can hang. Check out the video from Jalopnik’s “Truck Yeah” series below.
The Jeep Renegade shown in this video is the fully-kitted 2015 Trailhawk going head to head with the 2015 Wrangler Rubicon JK. The Wrangler unsurprisingly powers over the obstacles without any trouble. The Renegade may not make it look as easy, but it’s not far behind.
Although it’s sporting a shorter wheel base, lower ground clearance, and less beefy tires than the Wrangler, the Renegade keeps a good pace throughout the video. Jeep claimed that the Trailhawk Renegade could hold its own on the trail and we’re happy to say they weren’t just blowing smoke.
The Trailhawk is equipped with a low 4×4 system that offers a 20:1 crawl ratio, skid plates to protect the under carriage, tow hooks, and a 0.8-inch lift. It’s Trail Rated®, meaning it’s passed an extensive series of off-road tests to prove its metal. The Trailhawk is an impressive off-roading machine.
Obviously a regular Renegade is no challenge for a Wrangler in terms of off-roading – few vehicles are. The Renegade wasn’t built for the die-hard off-roaders, it was built for the weekend adventurer. It has the equipment to take on the harshest of elements, but goes further than just being a rock-crawler.
It’s an all-purpose vehicle great for taking long trips, driving around town, and running weekend errands. Owners can use it as their daily driver, and those with 4×4 can rely on it to keep them out of sticky-situations. That’s a good feeling.
So does the video convince you that the Renegade is a real Jeep? We think so, but we’d love to hear your comments on our Facebook or Twitter.
