Forsooth, Chrysler 200 convertible, we hardly knew ye!
Autoblog reports that there will be no drop-top edition of the new 200. Although the above rendering shows what might have been, sales of the previous 200 convertible made up less than five percent of the total for that model. We can understand why it’s a no, but we’re still sad to see it go.
But Chrysler is culling other cars, too. The Dodge Avenger is also being put out to pasture along with the Dodge Grand Caravan, at least for the time being. While the minivan will likely be replaced with some sort of people-mover, the loss of the Avenger and the 200 convertible leave holes in Chrysler’s lineup.
Holes can be filled by expanding other places, though. There’s something to be said for slash-and-burn agriculture. Sometimes you have to trim back the overgrowth, cut away the dead buds, and let the new stuff bloom. For example, reports say the new Chrysler Town & Country is expected to get a new nine-speed automatic transmission, just like the 200. It might also feature optional all-wheel drive, one of the only vehicles in the minivan segment to do so.
So you see, while cars and nameplates come and go, they will live on, in the funding of other vehicular ventures. So it goes.
